We left Melbourne on Friday 10 June. Our first experience -- we were upgraded to FIRST CLASS! Wow, couldn't believe it. We were like a couple of excited school kids! A sample of the food served:
Sadly now, the reality. It was one of the oldest, old planes, so the first class 'accommodation' was no better than any business class seat. The next leg (Abu Dhabi to London) we had to join the plebs in business class. However, don't feel sorry for us. Business class in this new, bigger plane was BETTER than first class in the old plane we left behind in Abu Dhabi. It was fantastic! What a way to travel.
We arrived at Heathrow early Saturday morning (11 June) and took the train from the airport to Leicester Square, where we changed to the Northern Line tube train to go to our accommodation. The train went right through our station without stopping. Now what? Got out at next station and had to walk all the way back with our suitcases and back packs. Bit of an effort after our 28 hour journey.
So grateful for our quiet and comfortable accommodation in Colville Place (for pedestrians only):
Oxford Street Circus (only 8 mins walk from our accommodation).
Flags everywhere for Her Majesty's 90th birthday. You won't see us in the crowd -- Lillibet invited us for a private chat. She was over-joyed that we made a special visit.
It rained most of our time in London, but I had my maps in plastic pockets - no drama. Nice and big so easy to see -- iPhone screen too small.
Regent Street
Hyde Park
. . . and a British Pork Pie!
Internet speed is slow, so more to come. Jet-lag has caught up with me and it's time for bed!
